Plant a Seed, Read at Your Library This Summer!
A farm grows food that nourishes our bodies; a library grows
ideas that nourish our minds! Both food and stories connect us to our family, culture, economy, and ecology. This summer, DoD MWR Libraries and other participating locations will explore culture, history, science, health, and human connection. Bases worldwide will host programs centered around food, economics, gardening, and caring for your community. All ages are encouraged to participate: Whether it's audiobooks, movie subtitles, emails, graphic novels--it all counts as reading!
Visit the DoD Beanstack page to find the Summer Reading Challenges nearest to you, then sign-up to log your reading time and earn prizes. Readers that are not located near a participating installation can also participate in the DoD Virtual Summer Reading Program.
National research finds that students who participate in library summer reading programs scored higher on reading achievement tests at the beginning of the next school year than those who did not participate. Our mission at DoD MWR Libraries is to provide the resources and experiences to bridge this summer gap, while inspiring literacy and life-long learning.
Be a part of the celebration!
As part of this year's theme, the DoD MWR Libraries are creating the "Field to Table" cookbook—a collection of recipes that reflects the diverse culinary experiences of our community across all installations.
We are looking for everything from Sunday Dinner family favorites to innovative MRE hacks created in field conditions (We have a special section just for field masterpieces. Just please make sure they don’t violate the laws of physics!). Our goal is to showcase the talent and creativity of our service members and their families worldwide.
Enter your recipe by logging in and using the Easy Form below, or submit via email to [email protected].
Submissions close on 15 August! Be sure to check Libby in late September for the release of the final cookbook!
